eGov Super App launch highlights simplified gov’t transactions

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) – Residents in Cebu residents can now take advantage of paperless transactions through a newly-launched mobile app that centralizes access to government services.

Cebu is the first province in the Visayas and Mindanao—and the first outside Manila—to launch the digital platform, which has already over eight million registered users nationwide.

Officials from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) highlighted this important initiative for Cebu, positioning the province as a model for other regions to adopt digital solutions.

By reducing the need for in-person visits to government offices and minimizing paperwork, the app seeks to streamline public services across the province, making them more efficient and accessible.

In a press conference on Oct. 21, 2024, DICT undersecretary for Support Services, Heherson Asiddao, said the app aims to simplify government transactions.

“The objective of the eGOV Super App is to enable transactions no matter where you are, even if you’re at home. Imagine being able to obtain a business permit without having to go to City Hall,” explained Asiddao.

He added that the app saves users time and effort by reducing the need for face-to-face interactions, cutting down on work disruptions and travel costs.

First launched at Malacañan Palace in June 2023, the eGOV PH Super App enables users to access both national and local government services with just one login.

The app eliminates the need for physical documents by using an online identity verification system powered by AI.

Among its free services is the generation of a National ID via integration with the Philippine Statistics Authority’s PhilSys.

Daanbantayan Mayor and vice president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines – Visayas Chapter, Sun Shimura, emphasized that the app is especially beneficial for those in remote areas.

“This includes PhilHealth and all the information needed by our people in the barangays and sitios, particularly regarding hospitalization.” Shimura noted.

The app securely stores digital versions of government-issued IDs, such as driver’s licenses, eliminating the need to carry physical copies.

Users can also apply for clearances, permits, and certifications, as well as manage social security benefits, pay taxes, and register businesses.

The app also provides details about tourist attractions and features the Philippine eVisa Portal for easier tourist entry.

DICT director for Management Information System Service, June Vincent Manuel Gaudan, noted that the app can be used offline, although an internet connection is needed for the initial download.

“There is a mechanism that stays in your phone and you can open it offline,” said Gaudan.

DICT assistant secretary for Regional Development Maria Teresa Camba also announced plans to create a Digital Transformation Center.

This center will provide free digital training and access to the internet, equipping residents with the skills necessary to engage in the digital age.

The eGOV Super App was officially launched on Oct. 21 in Cebu and is available for download on Google Playstore and the Apple App Store. (MYP/PIA7 Cebu)
