eGovPH app, eLGU system connect people to government services

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — Residents can now remotely access government services with the launch of its eGovPH app and its flagship eLGU system here.

The eGovPH app, designed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology  (DICT), is the country’s first one-stop-shop platform which streamlines different national and local government services, allowing access to frontline services anywhere and anytime.

DICT envisions the app to soon integrate government priority projects like agriculture, e-commerce, investments, travel, and job creation.

At the national level, the DICT has already forged a memorandum of understanding with 26 national government agencies to streamline their services through the app.

One of the services under the said app is the eLGU, created by the DICT through R.A. 11032 or the Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007, which provides Filipinos with  automated services provided by partner local government units (LGUs).

The eLGU system allows Filipinos to remotely access an LGU’s website and its services, potentially saving time and resources.

For businesses, the eLGU’s Business Permit and Licensing System (BPLS) allows business owners to apply online for business permits and licenses.

For individuals in need of different certificates, its Local Civil Registry enables the online application for birth certificates, marriage certificates, and death certificates.

LGUs registered under the eLGU also allows its citizens to apply online to get their Community Tax Certificate (CEDULA) without the need to physically fall in line to secure such.

To strengthen safety and security, the eLGU system also allows users to report issues in their areas to create a better and safer community.

DICT 1 director June Vincent Manuel S. Gaudan said the launching and promotion of the eGovPH app and the eLGU system form part of the agency’s goal of bringing government services closer to the people.

It aims to bring ICT initiatives and services to the grassroots, forge robust partnerships, and strengthen information dissemination,” Gaudan said.

In La Union, all of its 20 local government units are either already in the pipeline or will undergo onboarding to fully integrate the eGovPH app and the eLGU system for full implementation by 2025.

Meanwhile, Mayor Divine Fontanilla of Bacnotan, La Union welcomed the use of the eGovPH app and the eLGU system to enable a simpler, faster, and more accessible process of availing local government services, which helps both the local government and its residents.

We believe technology can make government services accessible and efficient, gearing towards a more responsive and transparent governance,” Fontanilla said. (JCR/AMB/MJTAB/CCMT, PIA La Union)
