LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (PIA) — The provincial government of Benguet has started the distribution of financial aid under the Presidential Assistance for Farmers, Fisherfolk and their Families (PAFFF) to El Niño-affected farmers and fisherfolk in the province.
Governor Melchor Diclas on Tuesday(August 13), led the distribution of financial aid to 775 farmers and fisherfolk the municipality of Kibungan during a ceremony at the Benguet Sports Complex Gymnasium in Barangay Wangal in La Trinidad.
Each received a cash assistance amounting to P10,000.00. On Aug. 14, the Governor also distributed financial aid amounting to P4,630,000 to 463 individuals from municipality of Atok during the Benguet HEALTHIER caravan in Sayangan, Atok.
The beneficiaries from other municipalities will also receive their financial assistance in the coming days. The El Niño phenomenon had hit the province in the earlier months of this year.
The cash assistance under the PAFFF aims to aid the farmers, fisherfolk and their families cope with the effects of the dry spell on their production and livelihood.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. personally turned-over the assistance in the amount of P29.74 million to Gov. Diclas during a presidential visit in Apayao on July 19, 2024.
Diclas encouraged the farmers and fisherfolk in Benguet to report damages to their farms or fish pens to their respective barangays or municipal local government unit when affected by calamities. (RMC, PIA-CAR | Photos courtesy: PIO Benguet)
