DUMINGAG, Zamboanga del Sur (PIA) – A total of 54 households in Sitio Kumpayan, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur now have access to electricity, after years of living in the “dark.”
Residents expressed their gratitude for this milestone, expecting that other remote communities in the municipality will soon have electricity.
“Sa 26 ka tuig nako nagpuyo ning lugara, karon pa jud tawon nagkakuryente, (I have lived here for 26 years, and it is only now that we have electricity,)” said Ronelyn Taata, a longtime resident of the sitio.
The local government of Dumingag highlighted that improving the road to Sitio Kumpayan was key in allowing the Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperative (ZAMSURECO) to “energize” the area. This initiative is part of a broader effort to provide electricity not just to the town proper but also to remote upland communities.
Prior to this, the local government provided solar-powered lights in small batches due to the sitio’s poor road conditions. Initially, only four solar lights were installed, followed by three more, bringing some relief to the community.
Gloria Anoran, a local resident, also shared her gratitude for this initiative, “sa inyong pag-anhi, duyog sa kalipay sa taga-Kumpayan nga naa na gyud kuryente tungod sa tabang sa kadagkoan. Dugay na kaayong gipangandoy sa mga katawhan dinhi sa Kumpayan nga magkakuryente diri, ug karon nadayun na gyud,” she said.
(With your visit, you share the joy of the people of Kumpayan, as they now finally have electricity through the help of the leaders. The people of Kumpayan have long dreamed of having electricity, and now it has finally come true.)
The local government of Dumingag commits to expanding electricity access to other remote communities in Dumingag, ensuring that progress reaches even the farthest sitios. (MLE/HTB/PIA9 Zamboanga del Sur with reports from IGMAT Dumingag)
