Elementary school in Canitoan, CDO receives 6 classrooms, add’l facilities

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) —Filipino-Chinese Friendship Elementary School in Calaanan, Canitoan is the recipient of six new classrooms and additional facilities coming from the Filipino-Chinese communities, the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCI), and the Cagayan de Oro Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (CDOFFCCCI).

The turnover ceremony gathered Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ A. Uy, education department officials, and leaders of the FCCCI. In addition to the six classrooms, the school also acquired a covered court, one gate, and entrance walls. 

Mayor Uy led the ceremonial ribbon-cutting along with Federation President Dr. Cecilio Pedro and Department of Education (DepEd) West II District Supervisor Dr. Shirley A. Merida, representing Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Angelo E. Gazo.

On behalf of the city government, Uy expressed his gratitude to the FFCCCI and CDOFFCCCI for supporting education with their donations to the Filipino-Chinese Friendship Elementary School, saying that it is a time to celebrate a generous gift that will shape the future of our children. He also thanked them for being City Government’s partners in building a better future.

“Education is key to progress, and having a good learning environment is essential. These classrooms are more than just buildings—they are spaces where dreams take shape and futures are built. The FFCCCI and CDOFFCCCI have not only provided classrooms but have also shown dedication to our students’ success. This gift will benefit not just today’s learners but future generations as well,” the mayor said.

Moreover, he told them that as they work together, they can ensure that every child has access to quality education and the chance to succeed.

He also addressed the teachers and hoped that the new spaces would inspire them to continue guiding young minds.

Uy also wished that the activity would remind the students that many believe in their potential. He encouraged them to work hard. “Work hard, dream big, and make the most of this opportunity,” the mayor said. (IJBD/PIA-10)
