Ensuring Fair Trade: Lupon Public Market undergoes Accurate Weighing Scales Inspection and Calibration

Lupon, Davao Oriental (PIA) — The Municipal Economic Enterprise Department (MEED) of the local government of Lupon, led by Market Supervisor Norbel Salazar and Admin Aide I Norgali Garuda, recently conducted a comprehensive inspection and calibration of weighing scales at the Lupon Public Market.

The initiative, conducted on May 31 to June 2,  aimed to promote fair trade and safeguard consumer rights in the municipality and was prompted by a concerned citizen, who raised the issue on Facebook regarding inaccurate weighing of the fish he purchased.

The inspection team, consists of personnel from the Municipal Treasurer’s Office, including Raul Taliman (LRCO II), Juliet Deypalubos (Admin Aide), and Arnold Ramos (Admin Aide III), along with Dexter Catalonia and other Municipal Economic Enterprise personnel, assessed the weighing scales for any signs of tampering, damage, or inaccuracies.

The week-long inspection, faulty scales were promptly marked for repair or replacement, ensuring precise measurements during transactions.

The LGU Lupon expressed its satisfaction on the successful outcome of the inspection, commending the market vendors for their cooperation and support throughout the process, and reiterates its commitment to conduct regular inspections to maintain fair trade practices and protect the welfare of consumers in the municipality.
