BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — Government forces recovered a cache of explosives allegedly hidden by New People’s Army rebels in Pudtol town in Apayao province.
The explosives cache was located based on information provided by a former member of the Communist Terrorist Group who voluntarily surrendered to government authorities.
Based on the reports submitted to Police Regional Office Cordillera Regional Director PBGen. David Peredo, Jr., the former CTG member is from Apayao and an operative of the West Front Committee, Komiteng Probinsya Cagayan, Komiteng Rehiyon–Cagayan Valley.
After series of negotiations, the former CTG surrendered to the operatives of the 1st Apayao Provincial Mobile Force Company, Provincial Intelligence Unit-Apayao PPO, Regional Intelligence Division (RID) -PRO Cordillera, Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 15, Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU) 14, Pudtol MPS and Provincial EOD and Canine Unit (PECU) Apayao.
The former rebel disclosed information on the location of an explosives cache during the interrogation conducted by the police.
Joint operatives of the Apayao PPO, RID-PRO Cordillera, RMFB15, RIU-14, and PECU-Apayao proceeded to the disclosed area and recovered the explosive devices.
Recovered items include Fuse Time Commercial-226 feet; two Grenade Rifle, M76 High Explosive; One piece grenade rifle, M76, HE w/o pin; one 60mm Cartridge, HE; three Handheld Radio; and two radio chargers.
The recovered explosive materials are under the custody of Apayao PECU, while the recovered handheld radios and chargers are now under the custody of the 1st Apayao PMFC for proper disposition.
PRO Cor said that the surrender of the former rebel which led to the discovery of the dangerous explosive devices is a result of the intensified anti-terrorism campaign of the police force in the region to ensure a peaceful and secure Cordillera. (RMC- PIA-CAR / PRO Cor PIO)
