Faith on two wheels: PNP’s ‘Bisikleta Iglesia’ builds stronger police-community ties in La Union

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA)  – To promote holistic community engagement during Holy Week, the La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO) held a “Bisikleta Iglesia” on April 17, blending faith, fitness, and public safety under the Ligtas Summer Vacation (SumVac) 2025 campaign.

More than a religious ride, the event united police personnel and civilian cyclists in a shared commitment to spiritual reflection, unity, and community engagement.

The initiative involved officers from the LUPPO Headquarters, 1st and 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Companies, San Fernando City and San Juan Municipal Police Stations, alongside members of the San Fernando City Cycling Club (SFCCC).

Participants biked through various churches in San Fernando City and San Juan, including Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, St. Jude Thaddeus Parish, the Carmelite Monastery, St. William the Hermit Cathedral, Nuestra Señora de Salvación, St. John the Baptist Parish, and ended at Our Lady of Fatima Chapel in Camp Diego Silang.

At each stop, police officers led prayers, offering moments of peace and reflection amid the bustling Lenten season.

Beyond its spiritual purpose, the “Bisikleta Iglesia” was designed to foster stronger community-police relations and promote safe, healthy practices during the summer months.

It also served as a highly visible reminder of the Philippine National Police’s ongoing readiness under Ligtas SumVac, ensuring the safety of residents and tourists alike.

Colonel Redentor Ulsano, LUPPO provincial director,  noted that public safety is best achieved when the community and law enforcement work together.

“The ‘Bisikleta Iglesia’ reflects how we can protect and serve while walking—or cycling—side by side with the people,” he said.

Rhey Garcia, one of the bicycle enthusiasts, meanwhile, described the ride as uplifting.

“This isn’t just a ride—it’s a journey of faith. Being able to visit these churches on a bike, with our police officers, brings a deeper sense of unity, safety, and spiritual renewal,” he said.

Through efforts like this, the La Union police promote not only peace and order but also a culture of collaboration, spirituality, and wellness—one pedal at a time. (AMB/KJCR, PIA La Union)
