DOLORES, Abra (PIA) — Local farmers here received a new foliar fertilizer developed by the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to help increase their crop yield.
DOST-Abra Provincial Director Ralf Sapi-il, Dolores Mayor Conde Turqueza with LGU Science and Technology Officer Designate Jason Ryan Celeste led the distribution of the Vitalgro Carrageenan Plant Growth Promoter (PGP) to the farmers at the Dolores SB Hall recently.
Farmers received varied amount of the foliar fertilizer depending on the area they are tilling. The distribution followed nine liters of Carrageenan PGP per hectare.
Sapi-il explained that the PGP was sourced out from the Community Empowerment Through Science and Technology (CEST) Program. He said that the foliar fertilizer is given for free to the farmers to test its effectivity in increasing production.
“Maragsakan kami ta ti Dolores ti first nga implementor ti CEST ti 2024, ket daytoy panagiwaras mi ti carrageenan plant growth ket maysa nga intervention tapnu mappasayaat ti panagdakkel ti mulatayo,” Sapi-il stated.
[We are glad that Dolores is the first implementor of this CEST program this 2024. The carrageenan plan growth promoter is an intervention that will enhance the growth of our crops.]
In an interview with Cesar Ato, he thanked the DOST and LGU for bringing interventions that will boost their production.
“Napintas daytoy a programa ti DOST ken local government unit ta maidandanun kadakami a mannalon ti supply kangrunaanna kadagiti fertilizers ket adu ti maited na a tulong kangrunaanna kadakami a mannalon,” he said.
[This program of DOST and LGU is beneficial for us. Farm supplies especially fertilizers are brought to us and this is a great help to us, farmers.] (CAGT, PIA-CAR, Abra)
