QUEZON CITY (PIA) — Summer break means more playtime for school kids.
However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning parents and guardians to make sure that the toys your kids play with are safe and non-toxic.
The Agency said parents and guardians should make it a habit to check the label of the toy before purchasing. Make sure to read and follow the instructions and safety warnings on the packaging to ensure its proper and safe use.
Ensure age-appropriateness of toys. Remember to keep them away from very young children who are still mouthing to reduce unwanted incidences. It is also important to handle toys with caution since it may pose choking hazards, digestive issues, and even bacterial contamination.
In case of ingestion or adverse reaction, FDA advises to immediately wipe or rinse out the mouth of the child. If in case of skin irritation, wash the affected area with water or apply cream, or drink a glass of water.
If the child experiences any adverse reaction such as skin irritation or allergic reactions, discontinue the use of the material and consult the healthcare professional.
FDA also advises parents and guardians to ensure proper storage for toys.
Also, proper disposal of toys is advised. Avoid flushing toys in the toilet.
