NNC: Nutrition tips for the new normal

With the celebration of Nutrition Month this July, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) highlights their message of maintaining a nutritious and healthy community through unity.
 
The theme “New Normal na Nutrisyon, Sama samang gawan ng Solusyon,” is a call for unity among the different health sectors, including the public to bind together to work on solving problems on undernourishment, stunting, malnutrition, and others.
 


These health problems require a great deal of support from the healthcare units and local government units to fix.
 
To help lessen undernourishment of Ilokanos, the NNC promotes some tips to maintain a healthy and strong body, its importance is emphasized now more than ever with the COVID-19 pandemic still looming over the country. 
 
Kendall Gatan, officer-in-charge of the NNC-Regional Office 1, shared some tips on basic nutrition that one can follow.
 
He emphasized the role of family in influencing its younger members to live healthily.
 
Nutrition is the foundation of health, Gatan says, thus eating a balanced meal, exercising, and having regular health consultations must be a priority for all.

True to this year’s theme, Gatan also aims to inspire Filipino families to create a home that always provides healthy and balanced food to young people.
 
“Isa sa ating mga goals talaga ay to encourage ang mga homes to improve food accessibility in the households. Sana lahat ng mga kabahayan ay magkaroon ng kitchen garden,” he shared.
 
Gatan shared some reminders for COVID-19 health and safety protocols to avoid the spread of the virus that has killed many Filipinos.
 
Since the onset of the pandemic, the health of all has been at risk.
 
With the observance of this year’s Nutrition Month, NNC enjoins all Ilokanos to practice proper taking care of their bodies and give it the nutrients it needs to not only function but to also build resistance to harmful diseases. 
 
“Let’s make every day a nutrition day,” he said.
 
Gatan hopes that through the observance of Nutrition Month, their efforts on promoting proper nutrition will be retained to solve health problems for a nutritious and healthy Region 1. (JCR/AMB/EJFG, PIA Ilocos Norte)
