51st 'Adlaw sa Probinsya, Handulantaw 2022': Showcasing Siquijodnon’s talents

All is set and everyone in Siquijor is excited to return to enjoying the usual revelries and parties in celebration of the 51st Adlaw sa Probinsya sa Siquijor. This after last year's Grand Golden Anniversary celebration was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With barely four days to go before Siquijor Island's “Big Event” on Sept. 17, officials and employees - especially performers from the government and private organizations - are excited to showcase their talents in a special night dubbed "Handulantaw 2022: A Siquijodnon’s Talent Night" on Sept. 16, one of the highlights of the 51st Adlaw sa Probinsya sa Siquijor celebration.

Provincial Board Member Brylle Deeiah Tumarong said the conduct of the event gives the Siquijodnons the avenue to pool and showcase once more their talents in singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments after the previous years' “forced break.” Performers are divided into 16 clusters: Cluster 1 is composed of all the departments at the Capitol who will present the “Solili Dance”; Cluster 2 composed of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Coast Guard Station, Philippine Army, Siquijor Police Provincial Office, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology for the “Pandanggo sa Ilaw"; and Cluster 3 composed of Sangguniang Provincial and Municipal Federations (SKPF/SKMF) for “Singkil.”

The Department of Education and Siquijor State College will compose Cluster 4 with “Cariñosa” dance, while Cluster 5 is composed of Department of Public Works and Highways, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, and the Province of Siquijor Electric Cooperative (PROSIELCO).

To dance the “Binasuan" is Cluster 6 composed of the Integrated Provincial Health Office, Department of Health, and the Philippine Red Cross, while “Tinikling” will be performed by Cluster 7 composed of Lazi National Agricultural School (LNAS) and the Siquijor State College (SSC) Lazi.

The Philippine Information Agency, Commission on Audit, Civil Service Commission, Regional Trial Court, and the Prosecutor's Office compose the Cluster 8 with their assigned “Kuratsa,” while the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry, Philippine Statistics Authority, Department of Science and Technology, and the Provincial Agrarian Reform will perform the “Polka sa Nayon.”

Clusters 10 to 15 are for the six local government units to each showcase their town’s festival, namely: “Dilaab Festival” for Siquijor, “Canoan” for Larena, “Pamukad” for Enrique Villanueva, “Saging” Lazi, “Lubi” for Maria, and “Bugwas” for San Juan.

Cluster 16 is given to the “Rondalya” from Larena and Olang Orchestra of Maria.

Araw ng Siquijor or the "Adlaw sa Probinsya sa Siquijor" is the province’s Charter Day celebration with activities that start as early as the first week of September with a parade, sports competition, trade fairs, talent showcase, and cultural presentations that all call for camaraderie, active participation and unity as one Siquijor, the way that Governor Jake Vincent Villa wants it to be - "a celebration filled with camarederie, festivities, and joy."

This year’s theme is "Siquijodnon: Padayon Duyog sa Pangagamhanan." The festivities started with a parade, opening of the Sports Fest, and Presentation of Mr. and Miss Siquijor Tourism on Sept. 5.

The “Halad sa Katawhan” is on Sept. 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. while the Mr. Miss Siquijor Tourism/Festival King and Queen is set at 7:00 p.m. On Sept. 16, a Thanksgiving Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., Painting Exhibit at 1:00 p.m., and Handulantaw at 6:00 p.m.

On Sept. 17, there will be a Grand Parade at 7:00 a.m., anniversary program at 9:00 a.m., Piyesta sa Kapitolyo at 11:30 a.m., State of the Province Address at 2:00 p.m., Pasigarbo/Local Talent Quest at 5:00 p.m., and the most anticipated “SiquiRoar 5.0 featuring River Maya" at 9:00 p.m. (RAC/PIA7 Siquijor)
