Freedom to celebrate the past and the future

This year, we celebrate the Independence Day with a long weekend. June 12, 2023, is on a Monday and will be observed as a national holiday allowing everyone to celebrate this annual commemorative event by having a staycation or traveling.

Aside from the declaration of a national holiday, Philippine Independence Day is also celebrated with a month-long conduct of activities laid down by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP)and other government agencies.

With the whole month dedicated to commemorating our freedom, we can celebrate the Philippine Independence on our own by expressing how we are proud to be Filipinos, remembering the history, and reflecting on the future of our country. One of the best examples of showing our participation is putting up the Philippine Flag in our respective places.

Aside from being proud to be Filipino, we are also encouraged to watch the commemoration of the Philippine Independence Day via online live streaming of the PTV, RTVM, and other government agencies on June 12, 2023, and follow the posting of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines at

We can also create our own experience of the Philippine Independence Day Celebration by visiting historical sites and sharing stories about the bravery of our national heroes and our rich history and culture by posting with the official hashtags: #PH125, #Kalayaan2023, #MakeItHistoric, #Kalayaan125

This June 2023, the official theme for the 125th anniversary of the Philippine Independence

celebration is “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan” which greatly depicts how we can truly embody our freedom in our own right as well as how we should be guided by the lessons of our history in looking forward to a better future for all.
