Ferrol to explore game fishing to boost tourism

ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) — The local government of Ferrol, Romblon plans to explore game fishing as a potential sport to enhance the town’s tourism industry.

Ferrol Municipal Tourism Officer Arturo Muros said that this initiative aims to capitalize on the town’s marine resources and attract sports enthusiasts, particularly those interested in recreational fishing.

During a Barangay Forum on September 25, Muros revealed that a forum on game fishing is set to be organized in Romblon by an external group, and Ferrol intends to participate actively to understand better how the sport can benefit the town.

“If this plan pushes through, it could provide a significant boost to the local economy, especially for residents who run businesses such as shops, restaurants, hotels, and other services,” Muros said in Tagalog.

He explained that game fishing has already gained traction in other provinces, and if implemented in Ferrol, it could transform the town into a key game fishing destination in Romblon. This would not only attract local tourists but also draw international fishing enthusiasts.

Also, the local economy stands to benefit from an increase in tourist arrivals as the need for services such as lodging, boat rentals, and other tourism-related facilities could lead to new investments and opportunities for local businesses. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA-Romblon)
