CABANATUAN CITY (PIA) — “In an era where misinformation and deception are rampant, the youth must be observant. Your participation in this forum is a clear statement that you will not just give in to propaganda, but will make decisions based on the real needs of the country and its people,” Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) President Rhodora Jugo told the more than 120 students present.
The voter’s education forum aimed to foster civic responsibility and encourage youth participation in the 2025 national and local elections.
Organized by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), in partnership with NEUST, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), the event underscored the importance of making informed decisions in choosing leaders who can address the country’s most pressing issues amidst a climate of widespread misinformation.
In his remarks, PIA Assistant Regional Head Carlo Lorenzo Datu encouraged the youth to exercise their right to vote and to empower themselves and their peers to take an active role in governance.
“It is not just a right, but a duty. A duty to ourselves, our fellow youth, and the generations to come,” Datu added.
Jugo reinforced this call to action, stating that the youth holds the power not only to dream but also to act toward the change they desire for the country.
“This youth forum is an important step for you to show your concern for our country, and this is through your wise participation in the elections,” Jugo said.

She emphasized the importance of engaging in discussions that would deepen their understanding of the election process and help them examine the qualities they should seek in elected leaders, particularly in navigating the current landscape of “rampant misinformation and deception.”
Jugo urged all participants to be active citizens and to get involved in the country’s democratic processes before, during and after the elections.
“The role of youth does not end with voting but in continuing to monitor the promises of elected officials,” Jugo added.

As part of the discussions, Nueva Ecija Office of Provincial Election Supervisor Election Assistant Anna Leah Viterbo explained the qualifications and steps for voting, the role of youth in elections, and the dos and don’ts on election day.
Meanwhile, PPCRV Diocese of Cabanatuan Chairperson Rev. Fr. Aldrin Domingo discussed the importance of understanding societal problems to determine the right leaders to elect for different positions.
These include knowing the country’s economic, social, political and environmental situation, which, he said, can be aligned to the platforms of candidates who can provide solutions through informed voting. (MJSC/CCN, PIA 3-Nueva Ecija)
