IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay (PIA) — In a strong display of collective action, Ipil town recently hosted the first Regional Information and Service Caravan for Child Labor Prevention and Elimination in the Zamboanga peninsula.
This event, bringing together 100 profiled child laborers, their parents, and key stakeholders, underscored the crucial message that combating child labor is not an isolated effort, but a shared community responsibility.
The caravan served as a tangible manifestation of this commitment.
Through Project Angel Tree, participants received essential school supplies and groceries, directly addressing the immediate needs of child laborers and their families. This practical assistance reinforced the message that the community is invested in their well-being.
The Department of Labor (DOLE) Regional Director Albert Gutib acknowledged the overwhelming support from diverse stakeholders, stressing that the fight against child labor demands a unified approach.
“Your presence is a manifestation that we are all concerned with this very important problem that we have to address in our society which is child labor,” Gutib stated.
Central to the event was the signing of the Pledge of Commitment to implement the Philippine Program Against Child Labor. This symbolic act solidified the collective dedication of all present to eradicating child labor and building a brighter future for Filipino children.
DOLE Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Director Elamsalih Ungad articulated the core message of the event:
“The fight against child labor is not just DOLE’s mission—it is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of everyone in the community.” This statement highlighted that the responsibility for safeguarding children from exploitation extends beyond government agencies to encompass every member of the community.
The caravan served as a powerful reminder that fighting child labor is not a solitary battle. It requires a united front, where government agencies, community leaders, families, and individuals work together to create a safe and nurturing environment for all children. This collaborative effort is essential to ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive, free from the burdens of labor.
