MANILA (PIA) — Lowly Filipinos need not travel far to report human rights violations following the launch of a new Commission on Human Rights online portal, which would serve as an access point for filing complaints anytime, even in remote areas.
Dubbed CHR Mismo, the government’s human rights advocate office said that aside from complaints, the portal, which commenced receiving data on July 1, also has the technical capability to process requests for assistance in what appears to be an earnest effort to streamline the tedious process.
Under its digital platform, the CHR expects swift resolution of cases with the elimination of multi-layered bureaucratic processes via the Management Information System Monitoring Outlet.
During the launch, the CHR boasted of its user-friendly features, embarking on dual languages—Filipino and English—to ensure broad accessibility. The system also features intuitive navigation and a visual interface.
“The launch of CHR MISMO represents a transformative change in how complaints and requests are handled by the Commission,” the CHR said in a statement. “Victims of human rights violations can now easily file complaints online by providing the necessary information for case assessment.”
The system, CHR added, automatically transmits complaints to the appropriate CHR offices for review and action.
Relatively, the complainants may also check the status and progress of their cases in real-time, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Meanwhile, CHR Chairperson Richard Palpal-latoc said that the creation of the CHR MISMO portal is one giant step in their quest to modernize and digitize the Commission’s services, with heavy emphasis on enhancing promptness, accessibility, and efficiency in service delivery.
“This platform is designed to streamline processes and make our services more accessible to everyone, particularly to the disadvantaged and marginalized,” Palpal-latoc averred.
With only 16 CHR regional offices nationwide, the online portal aims to address the challenges faced by some in accessing the Commission’s services, especially in remote areas.
Remarkably, Atty. Josiah Quising’s recommendation enabled the creation of the CHR Mismo Portal. Josiah Quising, who cited the need for a centralized management information system to address issues hounding unreported cases of human rights violations.
