QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The Quezon City government held on Friday, August 18, its pilot job generation initiative for constituents seeking employment opportunities overseas.

Through the Migrants Resource Center (MRC) of the Public Employment Service Office, the local government provided more than 3,000 land-based and sea-based career prospects in an Overseas Job Fair together with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

“The goal of this first-ever overseas job fair is to provide numerous opportunities abroad for aspiring migrant workers while ensuring their well-being through safe, orderly, and fair migration,” said City Mayor Joy Belmonte.

“Sa pamamagitan ng DMW na nagbigay ng mga lehitimong recruitment agencies, mas protektado ang kapakanan ng ating mga kababayan na makikipagsapalaran sa abroad (Through the initiative of the DMW who provided the array of legitimate recruitment agencies, the welfare of our citizens securing a livelihood abroad will be more protected),” she added.

Prior to recruitment, the future migrant workers are encouraged to undergo a Pre-Migration Orientation Seminar which will be facilitated by the MRC as an initial intervention to guide their cross-border journey.

“Employers are looking for employees with soft skills and eagerness for life-long learning aside from the applicant’s work experience and educational background,” PESO Manager Rogelio Reyes explained.

Earlier this year, the local government of Quezon City signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the DMW to ensure the protection, promotion, and realization of the rights of the city’s Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), especially women and their families.

Last June, the city government also forged a partnership with the International Labor Organization (ILO) to strengthen its local migration governance initiatives, particularly the provision of reintegration, social protection, and other support programs to migrant workers. (QC PAISD/PIA-NCR)
