CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA)- – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 2, through its Provincial Fishery Office, recently launched two fish processing centers for family-based beneficiaries in the municipalities of Diffun and Aglipay, this province.
The bureau awarded P400,000 fish processing tools, equipment, and paraphernalia to family-based beneficiaries, Jacqueline Dacumos of Diffun and Alicia Salcedo of Aglipay.
Dacumos focused on tilanggit or the so called tilapiang danggit which she jump-started during the pandemic.
Dacumos said the positive feedback on her product prompted her to look for breakthroughs through the BFAR’s support.
On the other hand, Salcedo, regarded as the “buro queen” in her community, ventured into “buro” or pickled fish making.
She said her passion for processing buro stored in ordinary plastic wares paved the way for her to seize the opportunity to build her processing center at her own expense. At the same time, the bureau provided her start-up capital aside from utensils and paraphernalia.
To prepare them for the operation of their chosen enterprises, Dacumos and Salcedo attended a two-day Hands-on and Skills Training separately on Fish Bottling and Fish Drying Technologies.
The said training also catered to 30 fish processors from their respective barangays.
Last year, BFAR Quirino also launched Acosta’s Fish Processing Center of Analiza Acosta of San Leonardo, Aglipay for her Fish Smoking Processing project and three other processing centers.
Products of these launched fish processing centers are expected to undergo innovation and product patents to further intensify the credibility and legitimacy of their products. (OTB/TCB, PIA Quirino)
