ARTECHE, Eastern Samar (PIA) — Mayor Roland Boie Evardone personally crossed floodwaters to distribute relief goods to over 700 individuals or 200 families in the upstream barangays of Campacion and Bigo on Wednesday, October 24, after flooding affected several areas in the town.
According to Evardone, nine barangays in Arteche were impacted by flooding due to Tropical Storm Kristine, specifically Tawagan, Cagsalay, MacArthur, Concepcion, Casidman, Bigo, Inayawan, Tiablawon, and Campacion.
The mayor emphasized that relief goods from the LGU was distributed on a ‘per person’ basis.
As of October 26, all residents or a total of 17,370 individuals across the 20 barangays of Arteche had received a relief pack from the LGU.

Each relief pack has an estimated budget of P164 or a total cost of P2,848,680. Each pack contain 1 kilogram of rice, 2 canned goods, 2 sachets of coffee, and 2 packs of noodles.
The funding came from the LGU’s Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (LDRRM) fund.
The Department of Social Work and Development Eastern Visayas also delivered a total of 1,139 family food packs to the municipality.

Evardone encouraged residents to register each family member with the barangay, including those renting in boarding houses or apartments within the municipality.
“There will be no discrimination in distribution according to the guidelines; the LGU aid will be given per person, but this may differ from national government agencies as their processes and policies will apply,” Evardone added.
The mayor emphasized that the funding for the relief goods came from the taxes of the people.
“While we are grateful for your appreciation about our relief distribution, it is you, the taxpayers that we should applaud, instrumento la po kami ibalik ha iyo an iyo kwarta pinaagi hin ayuda,” he said. (VTG, PIA Eastern Samar)
