BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – Overwhelming votes catapulted former Dupax del Norte Mayor Timothy Joseph Cayton to become Nueva Vizcaya’s lone congressional representative, alongside the re-election of incumbent Governor Jose Gambito and Vice Governor Eufemia Ang Dacayo in the 2025 National and Local Elections.
The Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) proclaimed Cayton as the Representative-elect with 100,291 votes, Governor Gambito with 151,517 votes, and Vice Governor Dacayo with 96,129 votes.
In the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (South District), the elected members were Luisa Corazon Cuaresma with 49,958 votes, Clem Cadoy with 41,625 votes, Leah Tidang with 42,977 votes, EJ Galanta-Martinez with 36,244 votes, and Pablo Kindot with 34,891 votes.
Meanwhile, in the North District, the winning candidates were Eunice Galima-Gambol, who received 70,999 votes, followed by Atty. John Severino Bagasao with 56,175 votes, Atty. Primo Percival Marcos with 51,734 votes, Wilson “Ayuda King” Salas with 45,830 votes, and Flodemonte Gerdan with 44,611 votes.
Cayton, who ran under the AKSYON Party alongside Dacayo, expressed deep gratitude and said the support from Novo Vizcayanos has inspired him to serve with greater passion and commitment.
“I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support of our fellow Novo Vizcayanos. We will work hard to fulfill our commitments, particularly in tourism development and the preservation of Indigenous People’s culture,” Cayton said.
He added that he plans to introduce key legislative proposals, including amendments to the Local Government Code of 1991.
“What we achieved in Dupax del Norte can also be realized province-wide through political unity, local leadership, and good governance. I ask for your prayers and support as we strive for a Brand New Nueva Vizcaya,” he added.
Cayton’s tenure as mayor was widely praised for successfully localizing national programs and delivering social services to various sectors. The strong backing of the Sangguniang Bayan enabled institutional reforms and brought financial assistance directly to the people.
For his part, Governor Jose Gambito said he was surprised by the landslide victory.
“While three pre-election surveys showed us in the lead, the margins were narrow. This overwhelming result is truly humbling,” he said.
Gambito reaffirmed his dedication to serve, noting that though he peacefully assumed the role following the passing of Governor Carlos M. Padilla, he now feels further empowered by a direct mandate from the people.
“Now that I have been elected by the people, I assure everyone that I will work even harder. Together, we will build on what we have accomplished and aim for even greater progress,” he said.
He also called for unity—not just among his political opponents but across all sectors of the province—saying that unity is the cornerstone of faster progress.
Dacayo also expressed her gratitude for the support she received and emphasized a commitment to restoring public trust through hard work and transparency.
“We will promote political unity as the foundation of hope, development, and progress for Nueva Vizcaya,” she said. (BME/Nueva Vizcaya PIA, with reports from Capitol News Hub, Jared Production).
