QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Commuters riding the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) celebrated Labor Day early on Wednesday in Quezon City with free train rides, a generous initiative announced by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

This treat, which runs from April 30 to May 3, 2025, extends not only to MRT-3, but also to the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2, bringing smiles to Filipinos across the metro.

Jim and Queenie Garcia, a married couple, expressed their gratitude for the Marcos administration initiative.

Malaking bagay sa mga commuter, thank you very much for the free ride,” Jim said.

His wife, Queenie, added, “Na-feel namin na Happy Labor Day ngayon because of the free ride.”

Camille Bayog, another happy commuter, exclaimed, “Omyghood salamat! Thank you sa free ride po!

Her excitement echoed the sentiments of many who benefited from the fare-free service.

First-time MRT rider Bj Purganan was equally thrilled. “First time ko sumakay ng MRT tapos free ride pa, so okay talaga,” he shared, highlighting the added joy of his inaugural journey.

For Nelson Logaos, the free rides provided essential financial relief. “Yung free ride po na binigay po nakatulong sa allowance po,” he noted, emphasizing the impact of this gesture.

“I have ordered free rides on MRT-3, LRT-1 and LRT-2 as a small tribute to our workers this Labor Day,” Marcos said in a video message in Filipino, earlier.

The President described the treat as a way to thank Filipino workers for their dedication and sacrifices. He acknowledged their crucial role in promoting the Philippines’ economic growth and social development.

This is a small recognition of the sacrifice and the contribution of our workers not only to our economy but also to our society. Happy Labor Day!” he added. (JVD/PIA-NCR)
