MANILA — What if learning about the West Philippine Sea could be as fun and exciting as reading a comic book? That’s exactly what The Stories of Teacher Jun delivers—a fresh, creative way to explore our rich history and the importance of our maritime heritage.
Launched on Friday, January 24, at the National Library of the Philippines, this groundbreaking comic book simplifies complex issues like maritime law and geopolitics into stories you cannot put down. Its comic book format is perfect for students, educators, and anyone curious about West Philippine Sea history, the 2016 Arbitral Award, and the Philippine government’s effort toward public transparency to counter misinformation and foster a sense of patriotism among Filipinos.
The event brought together the Department of Education Secretary, Senator Sonny Angara, National Security Adviser Eduardo M. Año, Senior Chief Justice Antonio Carpio, Philippine Coast Guard Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan, agency leaders, ambassadors, and personalities from the academe and media. Their presence underscored the collective support for this literary work in fostering national awareness and education.
The comic book, offered in both English and Filipino language, was made possible through the collaboration of creative minds in the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea and the Philippine Coast Guard with the intent to be an informative resource for Filipinos of all ages.
To spread the love for learning, hundreds of free copies were handed out to select public high schools within Metro Manila through their principals. Likewise, 1,500 copies of the comic book, along with a large replica, were donated to the National Library of the Philippines to reach public libraries nationwide.
The Stories of Teacher Jun isn’t just a comic—it’s a movement. It’s about empowering YOU to learn, engage, and take pride in being a steward of our seas.
So, grab a copy, dive into the adventure, and let’s protect what’s ours—because the future of the West Philippine Sea starts with us!
