Cristie B. Barobaro, a housewife from Sta. Rita, Samar, arrived at the “Trabaho at Serbisyong Pangkalusugan sa Bagong Pilipinas” event burdened by health concerns: a cyst on her left eye and gallstones.
“I have a gallstone and a lump in my eye,” she said. “I plan to have surgery at EVMC (Eastern Visayas Medical Center), but I don’t have the money yet.”
Barobaro’s story reflects the hope the event brought to many Samar residents seeking essential government services, particularly healthcare. Faced with financial constraints and chained by dependence, she saw the event as a lifeline.
She took advantage of the free medical consultations and received free medicine, alleviating her immediate struggles.
“Thank you to all of you who organized this service caravan,” she said. “Thank you also to PBBM (President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.).”
Barobaro also received laboratory tests, reigniting her hope for health and healing.
The event, a nationwide initiative, offered a range of services, including job opportunities, financial payouts, livelihood grants, affordable food, and a one-stop shop for various government services.

President Marcos Jr., in a brief address, emphasized the program’s commitment to providing Filipinos with access to employment and quality healthcare. He highlighted the government’s focus on a future where livelihood and healthcare are interconnected.
The initiative was a collaborative effort involving the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Department of Labor and Employment, the Department of Health, and the Department of Agriculture, with support from the Samar provincial government, the Sta. Rita local government and other stakeholders.
The event underscored the government’s dedication to providing essential healthcare and livelihood services in Samar. Individuals like Barobaro found hope and assistance, showcasing a holistic approach to improving lives in the province. (AAC, PIA Samar)
