CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–A fun run, Zumba with fun color bubbles, and Larong Pinoy [Filipino games] highlighted the kick-off celebration of the 31st National Children’s Month in Cagayan de Oro City on November 5.
Together with barangay officials, parents and caretakers, the city social welfare division, and the regional committee on the welfare of children, more than 100 kids from preschool to high school joined the opening program with the theme, “Healthy, nourished, sheltered: Ensuring the right to life for all!”
Girlie Balaba, city councilor and chair of the city social welfare committee, said the City Government of Cagayan de Oro under Mayor Rolando Uy ensures the protection of the rights of our children by strengthening its programs, for the development and promotion of their well-being and welfare.
“May this be a start in fulfilling our goal to protect the life of a child; may we all be inspired and continue to be motivated; may we build a community where our children live a life of happiness instead of abuse; a life filled with hopes and dreams and love instead of fear; and a life where they can be what they want as they grow older and become the future leaders in society,” she said.
Prisie Calapis, a mother from barangay Canitoan, shared her excitement seeing her little boy enjoy the games prepared by the city government.
“Happy kaayo ko nga nag-enjoy akong anak sa pag-bubbles-bubbles niya. Nakita pud nako ang mga bata nga nag-enjoy, nalipay mi nga naa di ing-ani ang mga bata, bisan asa nga mga schools para mag-celebrate sa Children’s Day. Wa ko nag-expect nga ing-ani diay ka enjoy ug happy ang mga bata [I am so happy to see that my son is enjoying the bubble game. I also see other kids having fun time. We are happy that there are activities like these for the kids, from various schools to celebrate Children’s Day, I did not expect this so much fun will be experienced by the kids],” Calapis said.
The City Government of Cagayan de Oro, together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-10, urged partners in the government and private sectors and the newly elected barangay officials to continue to be partners in safeguarding the welfare of children, and more importantly, for families to teach their children the values that will shape their character and self-worth.
“Give them kindness and understanding, and most of all, give and show them love,” said Balaba. (JMOR/PIA-10)
