Funny video warns against illegal recruiters, scammers

MANILA, (PIA) — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has launched a campaign to warn Filipinos about illegal recruiters and online scammers, through a funny and highly entertaining video, targeting overseas workers.

In a Facebook post, the DMW shared the light hearted video created by the Securities and Exchange Commission Philippines (SEC) highlighting various types of online scams. Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/qkziSfJbbdUf5YtL/

The video depicts common scenarios, including job postings that seem too good to be true and phishing attempts disguised as bank notifications.

Be critical when searching for jobs abroad and verify with the DMW if your chosen agency or employer is licensed,” the DMW advised.

The department provided a link to a list of licensed Philippine recruitment agencies and their available job orders on their website.

The DMW is collaborating with the SEC on the Anti-Scam and Illegal Taking of Investments (ASTIG) campaign to educate overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families about protecting themselves from scams and improving financial literacy.

The agency urged victims to report illegal recruitment activities through the DMW Migrant Workers Protection Bureau’s Facebook page. It also encouraged the public to report fraudulent investment schemes to the SEC’s Enforcement and Investor Protection Department.

Let’s be wise and discerning, and not fall for investment scams that victimize OFWs and their families,” the DMW said. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
