CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — “Mapasalamaton (thankful)” is the feeling that the beneficiaries experienced after receiving gifts from the Bless the Community: A Gift-Giving Activity organized by a private group in Cagayan de Oro City on July 1.
At least 3,000 individuals from Barangays 31, 35, and Lapasan received five kilos of rice and grocery items. This initiative was led by the Limketkai Center through its foundation, aiming to support the community.
“Dako akong pasalamat kay sa panahon karon lisod na kaayo ipalit ug bugas bisag isa ra ka kilo. Bisag duot motrabho ang isa ka pamilya maglisod pa gani. Busa bisan unsa nga tabang ihatag, daghan o gamay, magpasalamat gyud mi kay grasya na gyud na” said Judith Quilantang, a beneficiary from Barangay 35.
(I am very grateful because it’s difficult to buy even one kilo of rice nowadays, even if a family works hard. Any help, regardless of size, is a blessing we heartfully appreciate.)
Barangay 35 Kagawad Troadio Garcia, Jr. expressed appreciation for the gift-giving activity initiated by the mall’s foundation, which addresses the needs of their constituents in hard times.
“Dako kaayo among pasalamat sa ayuda nga gihatag sa Limketkai sa among mga constituent sa Barangay 35, kay sa kapobrehon ug kalisod karon nga nasinati sa katawahan isa sila nakatabang pinaagi aning ayuda,” he said.
(Our heartfelt gratitude to Limketkai for the help to Barangay 35 residents during these difficult times.)
He also prayed that those blessed with much in life may find it in their hearts to extend assistance to needy communities.
Extending Blessing to the Community
Jerome de la Fuente, head of the Limketkai Foundation and general manager of Limketkai Luxe Hotel, explained that the gift-giving activity started by assisting street kids in Barangay Lapasan, an initiative he initiated and later expanded to the broader community, driven by the Limketkai family’s third generation.
Recognizing the difficulties faced by Kagay-anons during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, Limketkai, as a homegrown company, wanted to give back to the community that has supported them since their establishment.
“The grandfather wanted to share what we have. That is why we organized this activity. We partnered with companies under the Limketkai Group of Companies for donations and sought assistance from associations like Victory and CCF to facilitate this initiative,” de la Fuente said.
Following the success of the gift-giving, the Limketkai Foundation will continue to bless various barangays in the city. De la Fuente mentioned that a portion of every company activity will benefit selected barangays.
He said a fundraising event is scheduled for January next year to support their gift-giving activities.
The Limketkai Foundation assures Kagay-anons that it will continue to extend assistance to various barangays in Cagayan de Oro, particularly to the less fortunate, as a gratitude for the community’s enduring support. (JAKA/PIA-10)
