‘Global Knowledge City’ to rise in Balamban, Cebu

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) – Gullas College of Medicine (GCM) chief executive consultant plans to establish a Global Knowledge City that will serve as an educational hub offering higher education opportunities in Balamban, Cebu.

Pillai, during the Indo-Philippine Educational and Cultural Summit and the 75th India & Philippines Friendship Anniversary Celebration hosted by GCM, said the educational hub will be built on a 200-hectare lot in Balaman town and can accommodate 50,000 students.

The Global Knowledge City is expected to bring top institutions such as Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Cambridge, and Oxford, with over 200 programs from the world’s best universities closer to local students.

Pillai, an Indian national, highlighted that the cost of education at the Global Knowledge City would be a fraction of the current global tuition fees.

“The cost of that education is one-tenth of the total cost of what’s prevailing now,” he said.

Pillai said the Philippines is the perfect location for the educational hub as he praised the Filipinos for their warmth and hospitality towards foreigners.

“I want to make it in this city (Cebu), in the Philippines because I fell in love with the Philippines. I’ve never seen a country which can welcome foreigners so much,” he said.

“Not only that, this country has got so many beautiful places for an affordable cost. And there are a lot of many things I can go on to say. And this can be the right destination for an education,” he added.

Pillai also stressed the importance of modernizing the way students learn.

He said that the project, which will be heavily backed by AI-driven systems, offers a futuristic learning experience.

“That will be completely AI-backed, my education. What I’m going to create will be futuristic. We are sticking even today in the traditional way of teaching, in the traditional way of learning. I wanted to change this and write in the syllabus and curriculum. It has to be market-oriented,” he said. (MSH/PIA 7 Cebu)
