‘Goring’ displaces over 900 families in Calabarzon

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna (PIA) — Heavy rains spawned by Typhoon Goring caused 935 families or 3,494 individuals to evacuate in the Calabarzon region, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region IV-A.

Of these, 545 families or 1,910 individuals sought shelter in 35 evacuation centers in Cavite and Batangas provinces.

As of August 28, there were still 527 families or 1,834 individuals in 32 evacuation centers while 390 families or 1,584 individuals stayed with relatives or friends. These families have since returned to their homes as the weather improved.

Director Barry Chua, of the DSWD Calabarzon, said 75,567 food packs worth P45,836,848.53 are stockpiled in their field office and satellite warehouses while 10,000 more food materials are available for packing.

The DSWD also prepared 23,963 non-food Items amounting to P41,033, 567.44 and standby funds amounting to P5,847,725.80 for additional supplies.

“The Calabarzon field office is closely coordinating with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC)-operations center and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Offices for regular updates on the weather disturbance,” Chua said. (PB)
