Gov. Dolor leads the distribution of aid from DSWD in Pinamalayan

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — Gov. Humerlito A. Dolor recently led the distribution of aid from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to the residents of 10 coastal barangays in the town of Pinamalayan.

Apart from the distribution, the local chief executive wanted to personally see the actual health conditions of people in the community as well as the situation of those oil spill-affected fisherfolks and fish vendors in the locality.

Dolor accompanied Provincial Health Officer In-Charge Dr. Cielo Angela Ante,  Provincial Social Welfare Officer Zarah Magboo and the team from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) to assess other needs of affected individuals in the said town.

In his message to the residents, Dolor reminded them about the fishing ban; and that the spilled oil contains benzopyrene, a chemical-containing carcinogen.

“It caused danger and could possibly cause pain, that is why bathing and fishing bans in the sea have still been imposed per result of water analysis conducted by the authorities,” Dolor said.

Dolor said that  they must wait for the official announcement of the authorities until such time that the fishing ban could be lifted.

The identified beneficiaries who received the food aid from the government were fisherfolks and fish vendors from the barangays of Quinabigan, Del Razon, Papandayan, Lumangbayan, Guinhawa, Ranzo, Banilad, Pili, Zone I and Wawa.  (LTC/PIA-MIMAROPA)
