CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) – Gov. Humerlito A. Dolor led yesterday the provincewide massive and simultaneous planting of bamboo and native trees in the province.

In the municipality of Baco, the governor joined the team of the local government headed by Mayor Allan Roldan and OIC Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer Engr. Minnie Romana Hussain in planting trees along the riverbanks in part of Sitio Moog, Brgy. Tabon Tabon and in Sitio Camacho, Brgy. Putican-Cabulo.

In his message, Dolor said that planting trees can increase the resilience of ecosystems, help minimize the effects of climate change, and prevent soil erosion caused by floods. Likewise, planting bamboo and native seedlings in ecologically appropriate areas can also counteract soil and biodiversity loss. It is hoped that through tree planting activities, soil erosions and flooding can be reduced in many areas in the province.

These municipalities participated in the simultaneous tree planting with government employees, barangay officials, and residents of the barangay: Puerto Galera, 8 km distance; San Teodoro, 13 km; Baco, 16.7 km; Calapan City, 7 km; Naujan, 28 km; Pinamalayan, 11 km; Gloria 2.5 km; Bansud, 6 km; and Bongabong with 3 km distance. These areas are all located along the riverbanks where the provincial government has identified planting trees for the protection of said riverbanks and for people residing near the areas.
