Government media, communicators join nationwide quake drill

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Government media personnel and communicators participated in the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on Thursday, September 26, at the Government Media Center Compound on Visayas Avenue.

Officials and staff from various agencies, including People’s Television (PTV), Radyo Pilipinas, Philippine News Agency, APO Production Unit, and the Philippine Information Agency, took part in the exercise aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness.

At 9 a.m., the drill commenced with a warning alarm, prompting participants to implement safety protocols, including “duck, cover, and hold.”

Following the initial safety measures, attendees moved to designated evacuation areas within the compound.

The exercise served not only to improve individual readiness but also to strengthen coordination among government media agencies in response to seismic events.

Officials emphasized the importance of such drills in ensuring that communication channels remain operational during emergencies.

By practicing these scenarios, the agencies aim to ensure they can effectively disseminate vital information to the public in the event of a real earthquake.

This drill is a crucial step in our commitment to disaster preparedness and communication,” PIA-NCR Chief and Incident Commander Emver Cortez  said.

Our role is to inform and guide the public, and being prepared is essential to fulfilling that responsibility,” he added. (PIA-NCR)
