Gov’t agencies in Ilocos strengthen linkages, networks through sports fest

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) — To further strengthen the linkages and collaboration among government instrumentalities in the Ilocos Region, the Association of Regional Executives (AREX) Uno, Inc. recently launched a sports festival dubbed ‘Friendship Games 2024′.

AREX Uno Inc. is a non-government organization registered under the Securities and Exchange Commission composed of regional directors, managers, officers-in-charge, center chiefs of government hospitals, presidents of state colleges and universities, and other regional executives that aims to assist in the regional development, improve lives in the communities, and facilitate synergy among its members.

The conduct of the sports festival is an annual activity of AREX Uno but has been impeded since the pandemic in 2020.

This year’s Friendship Games go with the theme, “Solid One: Reconnecting, Building Linkages, and Synergy through Sports.”

AREX Uno President, Atty. Crizaldy Barcelo, regional director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources 1, said the lineup of activities is designed to build networks and open avenues for connections among participants, not only at the regional directorate level but also to their team players.

“Usually, we just get to know each other by seeing names in communication letters or behind cameras in virtual meetings,” Barcelo said.

He added, “Through this sports festival, we can strengthen our networks and linkages, and by then, we’ll learn more about how an agency can assist and help another agency in delivering its service for the Filipino people.”

Participating teams will have friendly competition in basketball, volleyball, badminton, bowling, chess, target shooting, and mobile legends.

Barcelo reminded all the players and teams to exemplify sportsmanship during the activities.

“May we always follow the rules and note that it isn’t about winning but how we play the game,” Barcelo emphasized.

On the other hand, January Guia Caringal of the Poro Point Management Corporation, one of the players in bowling, said the sports festival promotes cooperation, healthy competition, and common objectives.

“The AREX sports fest strengthens bonds among government workers and gives us a chance to interact more personally outside the workplace,” Caringal said.

She added, “It also fosters collaboration, encourages teamwork, and creates a community of support and friendship, all of which can boost employees’ morale and productivity at work.”

The updates on the schedule of activities are accessible via the association’s official Facebook page at https://web.facebook.com/AREXRegion1.

The conduct of games was partially impeded in the previous weeks since its launching due to threats of recent weather conditions. (AMB/CGCC, PIA Region 1)
