MANILA, (PIA) — The government is effectively managing the response to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami), according to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla Thursday evening, as he assured the public that all necessary agencies are mobilized to assist affected areas swiftly.
“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed all relevant agencies to provide assistance to storm-affected regions as quickly and thoroughly as possible,” Remulla said during an interview with PTV’s Balitang Pambansa. He emphasized that resources from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have been deployed to support those in need.
Remulla noted that search and rescue teams have been dispatched to Naga City in Camarines Sur, one of the areas hardest hit by the storm.
“The journey to Naga took longer than expected due to slow travel on the roads, but the teams are now on-site,” he said.
He reassured the public that government resources are available to local government units (LGUs) as needed.
In addition to rescue efforts, Remulla announced that the Department of Health will send field emergency hospitals to Naga City to address the medical needs of storm victims.
The DPWH is conducting continuous clearing operations to ensure that roads remain accessible for the transportation of relief supplies to affected areas.
“Reports indicate that all roads leading to Bicol are now passable,” he added.
The Department of Energy is also coordinating with local electric cooperatives to restore power supply in affected regions. “We expect power to be restored in Naga shortly,” Remulla stated.
As the storm progresses, Remulla mentioned that Metro Manila and the provinces of Cavite, Batangas, and Laguna are already experiencing severe weather conditions. He is awaiting further reports from other provinces regarding the storm’s impact.
Overall, the DILG Secretary reassured the public that the government remains vigilant and committed to providing necessary support during this challenging time. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
