MANILA, (PIA) — The Department of Energy (DOE) welcomed the energy cooperation between the Philippines and Portugal, in the field of renewable energy and alternative fuels such as hydrogen.
This is after the courtesy visit of Portuguese Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho to Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla in Taguig City.
During the visit, Foreign Minister Cravinho mentioned that two Portuguese energy companies, Energias de Portugal (EDP) and EDP Renewables (EDPR), have expressed interest in investing in the country’s renewable energy projects.
Secretary Lotilla, for his part, shared with Foreign Minister Cravinho the areas of cooperation that the Philippines and Portugal can work together such as the development of offshore wind and floating solar, hydrogen, and ammonia production using renewable energy, importation of liquefied natural gas, and improvement of transmission and distribution lines of the country.
Foreign Minister Cravinho will convey the outcomes of the said courtesy visit to Portuguese Minister for Environment and Climate Action João Pedro Matos Fernandes, so that Secretary Lotilla can discuss it at the COP28 Meeting in Dubai this December.
The Portuguese firms are also eyeing expanding their presence in Southeast Asia through investments in the Philippines. (PIA-NCR)
