GSIS: Emergency loans in calamity areas in Negros Occ. ends July 19

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) GSIS is reminding its members living in areas in a state of calamity due to the eruption of Mt. Kalaon and El Nino Phenomenon that the agency’s emergency loan is only until July 19, Friday.

GSIS Billing and Collection Unit Staff Officer III Melanie B. Balbuena said that three local government units in the province declared a State of Calamity – La Castellana due to Mt. Kanlaon eruption and San Carlos City and San Enrique town due to El Nino Phenomenon- last June 10.

GSIS offered Emergency Loans to GSIS members and pensioners working or residing at La Castellana since June 10, she noted.

According to Balbuena, those with existing emergency loans may borrow up to ₱40,000 less existing loans, or ₱20,000 if they do not have existing loans.

Eligible members must be: active, residing or working in the declared calamity area, not on unpaid leave, with no pending legal cases, have paid premiums for at least six months, and maintain a net take-home pay of at least ₱5,000, she said.

She noted that old-age and disability pensioners in the affected areas could also apply, provided they will maintain at least 25 percent of their net monthly pension after paying the amortization.

GSIS charges an interest rate of 6% and a three-year payment term. “The emergency loan offers a viable financial relief option,’ she said.

Loan applications can be conveniently submitted through the GSIS Touch mobile app, downloadable from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Some active members, she said, applied through GTouch while some pensioners applied over the counter.

To keep members updated on its latest programs, she said members are requested to like and share the GSIS FB page, the “GSIS Bacolod BO,” or visit the GSIS website.

“Emergency Loan seeks to assist members and pensioners residing or working in areas declared under a state of calamity.  Members/pensioners who availed of the loan facility are then advised to wisely use the loan proceeds to help them recover from the effects of the calamity,” Balbuena said.  (AAL/Lljr/ PIA6 Negros Occidental)
