ILOILO CITY (PIA) — For the second time around, the island province of Guimaras will be conferred with a Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award for its exemplary governance, transparency, and efficient public service.

Guimaras joined the roster of 41 provinces in the country in passing the 2024 SGLG assessment. The province was also bestowed with the said recognition in 2023.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Nueva Valencia in the province is among the 577 towns that are also 2024 SGLG awardees.

These local government units were hailed for the notable achievements across several core areas, including Financial Administration and Sustainability, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection and Sensitivity, Health Compliance and Responsiveness; Safety, Peace and Order; Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness; Environmental Management; Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture and Arts; Sustainable Education; and Youth Development.

A brainchild of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the SGLG recognizes local government units (LGUs) for their commitment to good governance practices as embodied in this year’s theme, “Isang Dekada ng Pagkilala sa Tapat at Mahusay na Pamamahala.”

According to DILG Memo Circular 2024-064, this year’s performance measures were upgraded to comprise more outcome-based criteria as the SGLG underscored the long-term results of good governance. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo)
