Guimaras to hold festivity highlighting the importance of data and stats

ILOILO CITY (PIA) — In line with this year’s National Statistics Month celebration theme, “Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation,” the provincial government of Guimaras is to hold its first-ever “Guimaras Data Festival: The 35th National Statistics Month Celebration” for the whole month of October.

While the National Statistics Month celebration highlights the efforts in modernizing the statistical system, the data festival would also include raising awareness of the value of data and statistics.

In a report, the Guimaras Public Information and Relations Unit said the month-long event will feature various activities that promote the value of data and statistics in local governance, foster appreciation of evidence-based decision-making, elevate data literacy, and improve the data ecosystem in the province

Some of the pocket events lined up include Data Expo; PSC Digital Logo Design Competition; Guimaras Research Congress; Kaathagan sa Estadistika; Guimaras Ecological Profile (GEP) 2023 Dissemination; First Guimaras Data Pitching Challenge; Kabataan FIRST Data Summit; #DevTalk Statistical Infographics Contest; Capacity Development on Data Management and Analysis; Search for Local Governance Quiz GEMS (Guimaras Enthusiasts with Mastery and Skill); and Senior Citizens Congress and Data Advocacy with Vital Events Registration.

The event is also a demonstration of the commitment of the Provincial Statistics Committee under the Provincial Development Council to upscale the statistical system of the province and engage the academe, government and non-government partners, and the community in data-driven decisions.
