SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) — Gov. Eduardo Gadiano encouraged the public, particularly the local government units (LGUs), the business sector, and capable individuals, to turn to solar power amidst the power crisis in the province.
In a recent radio interview, Gadiano, before the holidays, advised the municipal mayors here to turn to solar power for operating government facilities to cut the demand for electricity in the province.
Isama na nila sa kanilang annual investment,” he said.
The governor also exhorted the business owners to invest in solar power for power, adding that their office will tap banks if necessary for the LGU and for the business owners to procure solar power systems through loans.
He further explained that the power crisis in the province ultimately falls under the national government’s hands as without the subsidy for electricity, the masses might not be able to afford electricy’s true generation costs ranging from P30 – 35.00 per kilowatt.
The utilization of solar power is one of the possible solutions while waiting for President Marcos’ intervention on the problem.
The province continues to experience rotational brownouts, lasting for 16 to 20 hours per day.
In a recent letter given by the Occidental Mindoro Consolidated Power Corporation (OMCPC) to Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (OMECO), the rotational brownout is due to the delay of payment by the National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR) to the former. (DSG/PIA MIMAROPA-OccMin)
