Health officials to unveil 8-Point Action Plan

MANILA, (PIA) — Department of Health (DOH) officials, led by Metro Manila Center for Health Development Director Dr. Rio Magpantay, will gather on Tuesday, July 2, to discuss the agency’s comprehensive 8-point action agenda aimed at improving the healthcare system for Filipinos.

The presentation will take place during the 6th edition of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas media forum to be staged at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel in Manila, where Magpantay and other health experts will outline the DOH’s plan, titled “Sa Healthy Pilipinas, Bawat Buhay Mahalaga” (In a Healthy Philippines, Every Life Matters).

The 8-point agenda includes:

  • Bawat Pilipino ramdam ang kalusugan (Ensuring every Filipino feels healthy);
  • Ligtas, kalidad, at mapagkalingang serbisyo (Providing safe, quality, and compassionate healthcare service);
  • Teknolohiya para sa mabilis na serbisyo (Leveraging technology for prompt service delivery);
  • Handa sa krisis (Strengthening crisis preparedness);
  • Pag-iwas sa sakit (Prioritizing disease prevention);
  • Ginhawa sa isip at damdamin (Addressing mental and emotional well-being);
  • Kapakanan at karapatan ng mga health workers (Protecting the welfare and rights of health workers); and
  • Proteksyon sa anumang pandemya (Safeguarding against future pandemics)

Earlier, DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa was quoted as saying that the action plan is “not just a slogan, but a pledge and an assertion that health is a fundamental right, not a privilege.”

Herbosa, who previously served as a special adviser to the National Task Force Against COVID-19, emphasized that the agenda aligns with the Universal Healthcare Act and the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028.

Among the top priorities, health officials said, are ending tuberculosis, achieving 95 percent nationwide child immunization, and reducing malnutrition by 50 percent.

The weekly Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas is a nationwide, simultaneous weekly forum organized by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and implemented by the Philippine Information Agency. The program is aired on multi-media platforms every Tuesday at 9 a.m. (PIA-NCR)
