Health sector strengthens proper hygiene campaign vs HFMD

BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA) — The Provincial Department of Health Office of Mountain Province (PDOHO-MP) reiterates the practice of good hygiene following the reported cases of Hand-Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) in a town in the province.

Michael Capuyan, Jr. from the Provincial Department of Health Office shared that proper hygiene, which includes proper hand washing, can prevent the transmission of HFMD, and other similar contagious diseases, and it can save lives.

The PHO reported that reported five cases of HFMD barangays Bantay and Poblacion in the municipality of Paracelis this month. Four of the cases are kindergarten learners.

According to the World Health Organization, HFMD is a common infectious disease that occurs most often in children but can also occur in adolescents and occasionally in adults.

In most cases, this disease is mild and self-limiting. Symptoms of HFMD include fever, mouth sores, sore throat, and rashes with blisters on hands, feet, and buttocks. Health authorities say that HFMD that proper and frequent handwashing can limit the spread of the virus.

Also, avoid touching the face especially the eye, nose and mouth area with unwashed hands, and do not share cups, towels, blankets or clothing.

“Every time na may nagkaroon ng rash, immediately seek consultation at the nearest health facility because only the medical officer can be able to distinguish the difference between measles, MPOX, and HFMD. Paalala po na do frequent handwashing and use alcohol, ” Capuyan said.
