Hedcor, BFP team up to strengthen fire safety in Bukidnon’s remote communities

MANOLO FORTICH, Bukidnon (PIA) – To deal with the growing threat of fires in Bukidnon’s remote barangays, Hedcor and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) have joined forces to enhance fire safety measures.

This initiative tackles challenges these communities face, including rugged terrain, limited emergency access, and inadequate firefighting resources. These factors significantly increase fire-related risks, underscoring the need for enhanced preparedness and response to protect residents.

Equipping communities

Determined to make a difference, Hedcor, in collaboration with BFP-10, is bringing fire safety training, essential equipment, and emergency response innovations to the areas that need them most. Recognizing the urgency of early response, AboitizPower and the Aboitiz Foundation launched a firefighting training program in Santiago and Maluko—communities with limited emergency services.

This program trains barangay police officers and local volunteers as first responders, equipping them with essential skills to control fires, protect lives, and minimize damage before professional firefighters arrive. By improving response times and strengthening community resilience, the initiative directly benefits nearly 8,000 residents.

To further enhance emergency readiness, Hedcor has provided firefighting gear, including helmets, gloves, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers, ensuring volunteers have the tools and confidence to act swiftly.

Beyond emergency response, Hedcor actively works to prevent fires before they start. In collaboration with local leaders, it supports fire safety awareness campaigns, educating residents on prevention strategies, evacuation procedures, and overall emergency preparedness.

Strengthening disaster response coordination, Hedcor has also contributed to BFP-10 Manolo Fortich Fire Station’s Disaster Response Control Room, enabling faster and more efficient emergency management.

Also, the launch of the Manolo Fortich Rescue Emergency App has further improved response capabilities, allowing authorities to mobilize resources quickly.
