High school graduates, skilled workers sought at Western Visayas Labor Day job fair

ILOILO CITY (PIA) — High school graduates seeking employment will find opportunities at the upcoming Labor Day Job Fair, where some 9,000 jobs from various employers will be available. The Department of Labor and Employment in Western Visayas will lead the event on May 1, 2025, at Robinson’s Place, Iloilo City.

With the theme, “Manggagawang Pilipino, Kaagapay sa Pag-unlad; Sandigan ng Mas Matatag na Bagong Pilipinas,” the job fair aims to provide opportunities for workers in recognition of their pivotal role in the country’s economic development.

DOLE Regional Director lawyer Sixto T. Other job offerings span information and communication, agriculture, real estate, mining and quarrying, hotels and restaurants, and health and wellness. Rodriguez stressed that the job fair offers opportunities not only for high school graduates but also for those who completed technical and vocational courses.

In addition to employment opportunities, the job fair will feature Kadiwa ng Pangulo centers with 40 sellers from 32 enterprises offering fresh, nutritious and affordable farm products, processed foods, native products, dairy products and other produce from the livelihood projects of the informal sector.

The Kadiwa ng Pangulo aims to empower farmers, fisherfolk and local producers by opening market opportunities for them to sell fresh and affordable products directly to consumers, thereby boosting their income.

The celebration of the 123rd Labor Day will also include the release of fund assistance under the emergency employment program, which began on April 14 and will continue through May 1, 2025. According to DOLE, approximately 35,746 informal workers throughout the region are set to benefit from the 173 million pesos in emergency employment assistance.

To provide comprehensive service to workers, a One-Stop Shop will be available to address queries and provide assistance for walk-in clients.

Participating government agencies include the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Health, Philippine National Police, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Employees’ Compensation Commission, Department of Migrant Workers, Social Security System, Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), Philippine Statistics Authority, Professional Regulation Commission and National Bureau of Investigation.
