Himamat Peace Camp gathers Siquijor youth

SIQUIJOR, Siquijor (PIA) – – Sangguniang Kabataang (SK) chairpersons from 134 barangays in the province gathered again for the third Himamat Peace Camp held at the Siquijor Police Provincial Office (SPPO) Headquarters Ground, Caipilan, Siquijor, Siquijor with the theme, “To Be Empowered: To Lead and Protect the Siquijodnon Youth.”

Dubbed Himamat Peace Camp 3.0, the activity was sponsored by the SPPO together with the Kabataan Kontra Droga At Terorismo (KKDAT), local government units, and law enforcement agencies.

During the Himamat kickoff ceremony, National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) regional director Atty. Edman Pares encouraged the SK leaders to align their actions with their words as this demonstrates integrity and fosters trust.

“You are here to lead. Kaya nandito kayo (You are here) because you are the leaders of your own right, a leader that can influence your members to do what is right,” Pares said.

The three-day Peace Camp included activities, lectures, and workshops on leadership and volunteerism training, anti-terrorism and illegal drugs, fire safety, basic rescue and survival techniques, activity design and project proposal making, financial independence, media literacy, HIV awareness, teenage pregnancy, among others.

It also involved physical and spiritual activities that aim to strengthen the youth social movement against illegal drugs.

“Despite our differences, we remain united for one goal and purpose, which is youth empowerment,” said KKDAT adviser and board member Brylle Deeiah Tumarong-Quio.

She noted that the SK leaders efficiently represented their barangays, and exhibited a high degree of collaboration and unity.

“I am grateful that along with my Sangguniang Kabataan Chairpersons in San Juan, we are involved in this Himamat Peace Camp and I know for sure that we learned a lot and I hope that as leaders, we can influence our fellow constituents,” said SK municipal federation chair James Andrew Gorospe of San Juan town during the Solidarity Night.
