House leader shatters impeach rumors, challenges Roque’s ‘crystal ball’ on POGO involvement

PASAY CITY — House Assistant Majority Leader and Taguig City 2nd District Rep. Amparo Maria “Pami” Zamora dismissed rumors of an impeachment plan against Vice President Sara Duterte while questioning former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque’s failure to foresee his own alleged involvement with Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in his so-called “crystal ball.”

During a press conference on Tuesday, August 13, at the House of Representatives, Zamora responded to Roque’s claim that his “crystal ball” revealed a plan to impeach the Vice President, though he predicted it would fail due to her high trust and approval ratings.

Zamora emphasized that no such discussions or intentions exist within Congress.

“Wala pong kahit na anumang intentions na ma-impeach si VP Sara, as in wala,” Zamora asserted.

She also pointedly asked why Roque’s “crystal ball” did not reveal his own connections to POGO controversies.

“Ngayon, bakit hindi niya nakita sa crystal ball niya na nakadawit pala siya sa POGO? ‘Yan ang itanong ninyo,” she quipped.

Zamora added that her own vision is of a unified government working together for the Filipino people, contrasting her outlook with Roque’s speculative predictions.

“Ang nasa crystal ball ko po ay isang maayos na gobyerno na sabay-sabay na nagtatrabaho para matulungan ang sambayanang Pilipino. Kahit na may iba’t ibang paniniwala at opinyon, iisa pa rin ang layunin na matulungan ang ating mga kababayan,” Zamora said.

Roque recently faced controversy after a house in Tuba, Benguet, reportedly owned by him, was raided, leading to the arrest of two Chinese nationals linked to an illegal POGO operation in Bamban, Tarlac.

During a Senate hearing, Roque admitted having an “interest” in the corporation that owns the Benguet property.

The raid followed a tip that a Chinese woman wanted in connection with the Bamban operation was at the house.

Earlier, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) Chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco revealed that Roque lobbied for a raided POGO in Porac, Pampanga, in July 2023.

Tengco said Roque, along with Cassandra Li Ong, a representative of the POGO Lucky South 99, visited his office to discuss the firm’s unpaid arrears totaling $500,000. (HOR)
