Classic MMFF Films make a nationwide comeback on the big screen

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Rediscover the timeless charm of Philippine cinema with 50 classic Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) films at the Sigla Sa Singkwenta 50@50, each available for only PHP 50. Featuring a wide range of genres—including drama, comedy, action, horror, romance, adventure, historical, musical, and fantasy—these films are being screened in selected cinemas nationwide. In a press statement, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) MMFF Overall Concurrent Chair, Atty. Don Artes recognized “Jose Rizal” as one of the films that represented the festival’s commitment to showing artistically and culturally noteworthy films. 


“In showcasing this film today, we not only celebrate the exceptional talent and artistic excellence of our filmmakers and artists but also emphasize the importance of storytelling in preserving our history and culture,” He stated during the screening of “Jose Rizal.”

 

The film follows the life and death of Dr. Jose Rizal. “Jose Rizal” is a film by National Artist Ricky Lee and directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya. It depicts his hardships and enduring legacy, inspiring generations of Filipinos.

Some films have been restored, improved, and remastered for a more enjoyable watching experience, while others have been left with their original imperfections to evoke nostalgia and maintain a connection to the past.
