DICT trains Abrenian women on English as Second Language course

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) concluded a training course on English as Second Language (ESL) for Abrenian women with two trainees conferred with outstanding awards.

Director Jimicio Daoaten of the DICT-ICT Literacy and Competency Development Bureau and DICT-Abra staff led the awarding of certificates to the trainees, confident that said training held here in Bangued, enhanced the communication skills of participants to become ESL teachers and tutors.

The participants took a five-day face-to-face fundamental training and another five days for the online campaign which will employ their improved skills.

In an interview with Jhoanna May Alvarez, an ESL training graduate, she stated that the training is significant to her who is a graduate of an education degree.

“Yesterday I was hired at 51talk, an online teaching platform, and most of my clients are international students. So, this training enabled me to become an ESL teacher,” she said.

DICT-Abra Project Development Officer Kevin Tarriela said that in order for the participants to complete the training course, they were required to submit their accomplished tasks.

“Their completion is based on the task they’ve submitted. That’s a guarantee that our participants are trained ESL teachers,” Tarriela explained.

The ESL training is one of the offered training courses for free under the Strengthening the Philippine Workforce through Adaptive and Responsive Digital Knowledge (SPARK) program of the DICT, which can generate additional livelihood and income through the digital platforms. (CAGT-PIA CAR, Abra)
