Ifugao gears up for UNDAS season

The Lagawe Fire Station has set up motorist assistance desks and BFP First Aid Service Teams in preparation for the upcoming Undas, ready to respond to any incidents or emergency situations.

LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Ifugao has activated “Oplan Kaluluwa” from October 27 to November 2, 2024 to ensure the safety of the people.

Senior Fire Officer Elizer Librado, Chief of Operations of BFP Ifugao, shared that a total of 146 personnel has been deployed across the province to assist motorists and travelers during the Undas season.

Librado shared this during the Undas and pre-disaster risk assessment and preparedness meeting of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) held at the PDRRM office in Lagawe.

According to Librado, they have set up motorist assistance desks and BFP First Aid Service Teams to respond to any incident or emergency situations.

PLt. Neva Jane V. Alzate, Public Information Officer of the Ifugao Police Provincial Office (IPPO), shared that the IPPO has deployed 421 personnel, including members from augmenting agencies and advocacy groups across the province, to provide police assistance and support for Oplan Kaluluwa.

The Police Assistance Desks are stationed in strategic locations throughout the province, including public cemeteries and high-traffic areas, to provide assistance, maintain security, and offer information to the public.

Members of the PDRRMC will also be on-site at motorist assistance desks to lend support. The team will be monitoring disaster-prone and fire-prone areas, as well as staying updated on weather advisories.

Kiangan Fire Station also conducted an Information, education and communication campaign on fire safety through the Hummangan with PIA radio program over Radyo Kiphodan 99.1 FM.

Fire Officers Argel. G. Ponhagban and Diana A. Dulnuan of Kiangan FS shared practical tips when leaving the house; 1.) Ensure that no electric or gas stove is left on, 2.) Unplug any appliances that are not in use, 3.) Make sure there are no running faucets and lit candles, 4.) Lock all doors and windows, and 5.) Secure valuable items outside the house that may be stolen before leaving home.

They also reminded the public to ensure that children do not play with lighters or matches, to avoid burning waste materials, and to never leave lit candles unattended. (JDP/FBR-PIA CAR, Ifugao)
