Ifugao joins World Immunization Week 2024 celebration

LAGAWE, Ifugao(PIA) – – The province of Ifugao  joined the  recent observance of the World Immunization Week 2024  with the theme,  “50 Years of Immunization: Kapag Bakuna ay Kumpleto, Lahat Protektado.”

Dr.  Virginia Narciso of  the Department of Health (DOH)- Cordillera  stressed the importance of immunization in saving and protecting lives from  vaccine-preventable diseases.

“World Immunization Week 2024 serves as a reminder of the incredible power of vaccines to protect lives and safeguard communities. It is not a merely a medical intervention; it is a cornerstone of public health, ensuring that children, adults and senior citizens along with their respective families are shielded from preventable disease and enabled to lead a happier and healthier lives,” Narciso said.

Every contribution counts towards attaining a 95 percent  target of herd immunity and eradicating vaccine-preventable diseases, she added.

Narciso reiterated that the DOH remains steadfast in its commitment to fortify immunization coverage by enhancing health literacy and disseminating accurate information regarding vaccines to address misconceptions and to establish trust.

It also continues to develop community engagements  to bridge existing gaps, and cultivate unwavering support and confidence in the immunization program, and ensure equitable and widespread access to vaccines for all individuals, be it children or  adults.

Aside from the program at the Lagawe Central School, the  World Immunization Week  celebration featured a parade and sing/dance contests participated by the municipal health offices, and hospitals in the province.

The Ifugao Provincial DOH Office and Provincial Health Office are inviting the public to visit the nearest health center for more information on the available vaccines of all ages.

Office of the Governor Executive Assistant Tom Guinomon assured that that the provincial government is doing its part in delivering the health needs of the people for a healthy and progressive Ifugao.

World Immunization Week is celebrated  from April 24 to 30  to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease,  regardless of their geographic location and socioeconomic status. (JDP/MBL-PIA CAR, Ifugao)
