Ifugao PNP attributes drop in crime volume to community support, dedication of cops

LAGAWE, Ifugao (PIA) — Community support and dedication of police personnel in performing their mandates are among the reasons of the decline of crime volume  in the province  this year.

Police Executive Master Sergeant Marjorie Dulnuan and Corporal Kenneth Gas-ib of the Ifugao Provincial Police Office (IPPO) said  they have  recorded 231 crime incidents from January to December 10, 2023 compared to the  290 cases during same period last year,  for a  20.34 percent decrease.

For the total crime volume distribution per municipality, Lamut town registered the highest with 58, followed by Lagawe-48, Hingyon-27, Alfonso Lista – 24, and  Kiangan-21.  Hungduan and Mayoyao had the least with  four each.

For index crime or the eight focus crimes distribution, rape, physical injury and murder were  the top two while violations of special laws with 57 topped non-index crimes.

Dulnuan and Gas-ib also stated that the drop in  crime volume is attributed to the implementation of the five focused agenda of the Philippine National Police   Chief   and the conduct of the enhanced managing   police operation and simultaneous anti-criminality law enforcement operation.

They  said the  IPPO is bent on enforcing activities to further reduce crimes like strictly enforcing the curfew hour, conduct of nightly mobile and foot patrols and simultaneous checkpoints, and the implementation of its Operation Plan (OPLAN) – “Pani-o”   to help address rape incidence in the province.

Other measures like the “Adopt a Family” program and provision of assistance and free haircut are being undertaken to strengthen the partnership between the community and the police. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR-Ifugao)
